What is an Optomap?

Optomap® is the only exam that captures more than 80% of your retina in one panoramic image. The unique Optomap® ultra-wide view helps our optometrist detect early signs of retinal disease more effectively and efficiently than with traditional eye exams.  The advanced digital scanning technology views 80 per cent of your retina, compared to the traditional methods which show only 10 to 15 per cent.

Diseases or damage such as macular degeneration, glaucoma, retinal tears or detachments, and other health problems such as diabetes and high blood pressure, can be seen with a thorough exam of the retina.

You simply look into the device one eye at a time and it takes just a second to capture the image. The procedure is painless, non-invasive and no drops are required so you can drive afterwards.

The results are instant so our optometrists will review the image with you, there is no wait to discuss your results.  We keep these digital images and they can then be compared for changes over time.
